It was made with a 400mm f/3.5 ais coupled to a tc300 2x teleconverter, giving 800mm, on a crop sensor (D500). So your 1000 mm guess was quite spot-on!

Joost, thanks for the detail.  I love the extreme effect of the compression of a long lens and the turbulence of the air.  The color is great, too!

Joost, I love sun shots in which the sun is BIG like a basketball. It's very dramatic!
