This is not a great photo.  I get that.  I just handed the phone to someone while we were shooting video.  But that's ME, playing with fire. :)

So don't play with Tom 'cause he's playing with fire...

Guy Fawkes Night, burning your demons:

Remember, remember the fifth of November.

What sort of celebration is Guy Fawkes Night in these years?

Yes that is what the invitation said.

Some friends/colleague use to keep up this tradition. When getting into the time of the year with cold dark nights, Alaskans use every excuse to have a social event. The basic principle is to make a figure out of straw etc. representing something bad that has happened to you in the foregone year, and then throw the figure into the bonfire.

Some entertainment - she is pretty good at fire juggling:

Burning out the migrants
Shot this some time back while out shooting birds.  Some migrants had built this shed (obviously planning on capturing the land) in the paddy fields.  While my son and I were shooting, three locals walked down the road and the next thing we know, the shed was on fire and I had to run and quickly move my jeep.   Now there is nothing lefts of the shed, not even the charred wood.

Photos from a recent visit to Hawai'i Volcanoes National Park in the Hawaiian Islands, USA, where the Kilauea Caldera still holds bubbling lava visible from a safe distance a little over a mile/1.6km away. The first photo of the overall Caldera is taken from Keanakakoi overlook, a moonlit photo at 1sec/35mm/f3.3/ISO 1600 to enhance the glow from the lava and the time chosen to avoid the (typically) overcrowded overlook. The second photo is a closeup of the lava surface taken from the same location, with 0.67s/800mm/f6.3/ISO 2500 settings. The image is nearly full frame with a lot of heat shimmer but captures the alien fire-and-brimstone environment. This area has seen a recent increase in seismic activities that have preceded prior major eruptions - although the park officials are not issuing warnings at this time.
