One Question
« on: June 18, 2015, 01:04:16 »
(1) Yellow and black are natures warning signals. How about some colors a little cooler please?

I know you are working on this, so just suggestions.

We are experimenting, yes. And yellow + black will be part of the new design, warning or not.

Well, you invited feedback. Perhaps you can work on the shade of yellow to be less of a "warning."

I like the yellow.  But, please don't make it any more saturated than it already is.
Intensely saturated colors are, to me, part of the current world of commercial hype---along with annoying flashing, and animations that cannot be turned off.
The yellow and grey are a nice relief from the super-saturated blues, magentas, and greens that are used so commonly on the web.

Here are two lighter yellows that are not so jarring to the eye for long-term exposure, like a web site.

I like the yellow/black color as coporate ID of Nikon, but frankly I feel it doesn't really fit well with the color and the simplistic UI of the software used for this forum, I mean, design-wise (including the yellow "Post" and "Preview" buttons).

I agree.

The forum I hang out at (http://www.getdpi.com/forum/), the layout is much easier on the eyes.

I suggested above two colors of light yellow that are, well, more mellow. Perhaps you would consider them.

Andrea is the Web Wizard here. Shoot her a PM if she isn't already onto the matter.

Personally I find the new layout a welcome change from the darkness and heavy colours of many photo sites. I'll allow it to run for at least a while longer while we experiment with minor amendments.

I did not try to match the layout, jut showing what a more gently yellow and black can look like. More soothing to the eye.

I sent AndreaB a note to look here since I can't attach images to a PM.

A more gentle look is easier on the eyes, IMO.

Thanks, Michael

Bjørn, that was just my personal preference.  I'm not against the idea of trying the color for a while.

That said, I would find the subdued yellow suggested by Michael more pleasing.  It affects my sensitivity to the color much less.

Folks, please don't forget that you can select the Theme you would like to use. The basic blue & white Curve Theme is still available along with a couple of others.

I just wrote up the following Theme Guidelines and posted them in the Guidelines section, but I will also paste it here so folks following this Topic can return to the Curve Theme if they like.

I am not yet finished with the Theme-ing. It takes time to work through a huge CSS file. But I hope to be able to offer a couple of more Themes later.

THEME GUIDELINES

There are currently four available Themes from which to choose:
  • Curve
This is the basic, curved, blue & white default Theme which arrives in the SMF software package. The category bars and menu buttons have a rounded look.
  • Core
This is a very old, cluttered Theme.
  • Mr. Truckman
This is a more modern, squared, grey and white Theme with orange titles.
  • Revival
This is a squared, Nikon Yellow, black & grey Theme with dark grey titles which Bjørn requested. This is Nikongear's default Theme.
To select the Theme you would like to use for your Nikongear visits, please access your Profile from the Menu buttons and find the Look & Layout page:

Profile (dropdown) > Summary > Modify Profile (dropdown) > Look & Layout > Current Theme > Change

When you highlight & click Change, you will be presented with the Theme choices. Scroll down to the Theme of your choice and click Use this Theme.
