"Almost" full moon, clouds and Jupiter.  Still, it is a very challenging contrast.

To fully appreciate your photo I saved it to disk and opened it with a dark background. NG's default white background kills the details in the clouds. But then maybe NG's colors can be personalised (haven't watched that aspect in detail)

EDIT: I changed the standard profile, (look and Layout), and used the SMF Default Theme - Curve which has a grayish background, still not perfect, but better than the white background.

Here's another one with more violent colors , Shooting for the Moon

Thank you, Massimo!  You can go to your "Look and Layout" page from your "Profile" and change the "Current Theme".  I use "SMF Default Theme" whose background is light gray instead of white.  I can see the darker images better.

Thanks for the hint, Akira! While you were writing, I worked my way to the same conclusion that SMF Default was the better option. BTW,  with that profile, Portrait photos are shown bigger on the page.

Shortly afterwards, there was a beautiful full moonrise that I was able to capture. The moon was insinuating across cloud layers, and a couple birds passing by added a nice touch.

Here it is: Moonrise 17 june 2019

Technical: Nikon D500, 200-500mm f/5.6 ED AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor. 500mm, ISO 3200, 1/40" @f:5.6, handheld, VR ON

Wow, Massimo, these two images are super-gorgeous!

Thanks!

As usual with my moon shots, most are taken from my house windows...

Next week (july 16) there should be a moon eclipse (partial - up to 70%, I don't know if visible from Japan).

Nice new captures Massimo! I like the way the moon diffuses into the (light polluted?) clouds in the last one.

I too like your last image Massimo.

It reminds me of the Australian Aboriginal flag, except that in the flag it is the gold colour of the sun that we see.

Yes, there was light pollution from the city down below. Still, the effect was appalling. Happy you like these pictures!

I'll have to look up that flag. The effect was a coincidence, I'm happy that the colour combination inspired both the flag and myself taking the picture...

EDIT: looked up the flag, there is great similarity, only the top layer of my photo is dark blue instead of black.

Sunrise (and moonset) in the French Alps

This one might have a place in the minimalist section...

The 50th anniversary of the first moon landing is approaching (july 20, 2019).

Maybe if everyone looks up his/her files for moon photos, we can have a decent commemoration of the event
