This and your combination with PS stacking seems to work.
Did you ever try Zerene for this, or has PS slowly caught up with the dedicated stack s/w?

I finally managed to "retrieve" the D500 a friend had loaned ... after a weekend spent on a remote island, I am full of appreciation for this camera (again). Before leaving, I captured this mixture of Saxifraga granulata and Armeria maritima using the 18-140 Nikkor.

Thanks Colin,
I tried zerene a few years ago, conditions were different, I used 36mp raw files, and a 150mm macro therefore a shallower dof, also focus was adjusted manually using the d800 live view. The processing was slow and had many odd artifacts, I did not continue my efforts
This time, with the x-t3, the experience was much smoother, and ps did a good job with little effort. I noticed that even with jpgs , and only 20 images the file grew to 1.5gb while doing the stack, my machine has only 8gb , I doubt I can tackle much deeper stacks in ps.

The printed newspaper is a dying species, some say.
The price is skyrocketing. We started with 500€/year 10 years ago, now it is 900€/year for same. I feel they used all the money to build expensive internet sites where they give away the content the subscribers pay for. That is why they have to raise the price for my paper. People online feel they can have it all for free.
I subscribed to the Guardian online additionally for only 75€/year, roughly the price of my paper online per quarter ...
I do not understand all of this.

In 1972 I resided my old house, and dug up the irises at the foundation. They spent the next year in a wheelbarrow in the back yard. Neglected, frozen and flooded, transplanted in subsequent moves, the very old variety comes up first every year. (200/4 Q with long extension).

I've had the same effect coming out of a used D70 I bought for parts, only the colorful striping is vertical. Initially I planned to take it apart to see what was the problem (maybe a loose flat cable), but then I decided that the random artistic effect (straight OOC) would more than compensate the 10€ I spent, so I kept it that way.
BTW, it's not completely random, you get a vague idea of the subject, as if the camera had taken a heavy dose of LSD or something...
Not posting anything yet, the photos I have have not been taken in June...and I like to go by the rules!
Ciao from Massimo

Obviously works :D
By the way, Photo Ninja runs just fine under Linux (tested with deb variants), RawTherapee is native Linux and so is Zerene Stacker. Add Hugin as a good alternative to PTGui, and Gimp as a passable alternative to Photoshop, and the straightjacket imposed by the other big makers can largely be avoided.
-
A case in point; today's macro shooting with Laowa 25mm f/2.8 Ultra-Macro and the Z7. Subject here are cross sections of the stem of Potamogeton natans (Pondweed) done at 3.5X. The scene is about 6 mm across. All done on Linux using Photo Ninja and Zerene Stacker (apart form the final step of uploading to the web, on one of my Windows boxes).
The Laowa lens is a sharp performer, but I could do with less chromatic aberration.
-
How to you cut these cross sections so cleanly? Scalpel? Shaving Equipment?

Frank, both sides of the image are the actual shadows. Even though the lens was wide open, it is designed for a full frame, and I'm not sure it that would cause vignetting on an APS-C sensor.
I bought the lens to use wide open with the expectation of the vintage look and the fair amount of DOF. The combo is promising for sure.

Attended a local PRIDE parade yesterday. Unfortunately, I'll have to drop the big event in Oslo next Saturday, as I'll be on a trip down the souther coastline to collect and photograph aquatic plants by then. The local event was interesting and colourful on its own - of 5000 inhabitants, more than 3000 joined the parade :) A massive turnout. A few drops of rain were insufficient to curb the enthusiasm.

The 21mm f/4 Voigtländer for Nikon rangefinder (RF) S-mount is a fairly recent but rather elusive item that few are familiar with. This wide-angle lens, by not being a retrofocus design, is very compact on the Z6 even with its RF(S)-Z adapter. It is a fine performer.

Can I be curious and ask you how much is "reasonable" ? Haven'seen anything recently (in Nikon F mount) lower than 1700€
EDIT: there's one currently for sale @1510€, but has no box and no front cap. No big deal, it't the glass that takes the photos, but a fair comparison should be between similar offerings, yours appears to be complete.

I think that June is a great month for shooting the "Milkyway".
Last night, me and two friends went southeast of Athens, to cape Sounio, to photograph the milkyway one more time.
It was a great opportunity to try new, different techniques. The image below is a little vertical pano of two horizontal frames. The frame with the foreground is a stacked image of 5 frames of 4minute exposure @ f/5.6 iso 1600. The frame with the milkyway is a stacked image of 25 frames of 13sec exposure @ f/2.8, iso 3200. All images were taken with the Nikkor 20mm f/2.8 ai-s on Nikon D700. The stacks were done in sequator. Final blending and touch in Ps.

I'm engrossed in my aquatic plant project and currently there is little time for posting here on NG.
A small crop of the full frame of Z7 with the Laowa 25mm f/2.8 "Ultra-Macro" lens, at 4X magnification to show the nectarium ("honey pot") of the honey leaves (petals) of Ranunculus peltatus, Water Crowfoot. Stacked using Stackshot and Zerene.
The Laowa lens is surprisingly good and considered its moderate price, a "steal" for anyone into photomacrography.

June 28. Senecio cineraria? Jacobea maritima?
Interesting through the monochrome backdrop!

Interesting through the monochrome backdrop!
Thank you, Frank. The overcast sky and the featureless buildings seem to function as a fitting backdrop for the flowers.

Interesting, worth checking out, thank you.
May hope you have a worthwhile project.

Very nice image and good BW conversion.
My old 35mm f2 is with out the C, but I like it, very sharp.

The tell-tale growth point of a Pilularia globulifera (Calamistrum globuliferum); Marsiliaceae immediately shows this is a fern species.
Laowa 25mm f/2.8 'Ultra-Macro' at 3X, Z7 (small crop of whole frame). Heim halogen cold light.
