Yes, agree with Jacques, very interesting.  Especially the analysis when using the lens on film is very informative.

glad you liked it!  :o :o :o

i think that this lens is the most boring one in the 35/2.8 family  ::)

I love the K the most 8)

the results with film sure put this lens' rendering in the spotlight. it looks very natural and the bokeh is surprisingly good. I don't remember the Ai (late) to be like this, maybe i should test it again since it shares the same optics with this one.

I also agree the K is the best to my liking.

But that doesn't mean dat the 35/2.8 Ai-S is bad,  compared to many other lenses it is still something special.  The Nikon 35/2.8 is just a very special family :)

Interesting to see how many different version of the same optical length have been produced

I have a lens that looks similar to Fons' with the metal focus ring, but says Nippon Kogaku Japan instead of Nikon, and has 6 aperture blades

I find it to be one of the easiest lenses to use

Yours is a few years older, but optics must be similar

I always had the feeling the AI-S 35/2.8 was under-rated. Sure, it might not be quite as sharp as the older 6-element AI version, and barrel distortion is higher, but the rendition is smoother, and it still performs well when stopped down a little. The older lens is more highly corrected, but this results in less smooth background bokeh.

The focus throw of the AI-S 35/2.8 is adequate, but slightly longer than the AI version with the same optical design (serial no 350001 - 45xxxx), and I think it is a more attractive looking lens. The series-E 35/2.5 has a similar 5-element optical design but it is compromised by being a little faster and more compact, and poorer coatings, so overall it is not as good as the AI-S version.

The Nikon 1001 nights series had a comparison of various 35/2.8 models: https://imaging.nikon.com/history/story/0038/index.htm but it does not include the last 5-element AI/AI-S versions.

didnt expect that this lens would stir some interest for it  :o :o :o

i guess I mis-judged this lens as being boring, maybe it's because I love the K the most ::)

I'm a little confused about how or where the K fits in here, as it looks very similar but seems to come apart differently.   I like my super-bargain-bin K as a traveling lens because it's not only nearly indestructible, but very easy to open up and clean or repair.  The front bezel comes off and most of the innards just pop out.  I think in a pinch you could do most of it with a nail clipper and some tissue paper.
