Title: Formula E machine
Post by: Akira on December 05, 2018, 13:50:14
Right after I had gotten my D750 back from the repair, I thought that the new Formula E machine on display at the Nissan Crossing, only a couple of minutes' walk away from the Nikon service, appeared to be an appropriate subject for its test drive.  :)

These are a few results.  Idealistically, I would have liked to shoot such a modern machine with a very wide lens, but the only lens I had was, as always, my trusty 50/1.8G.  So, I tried to make the best use of it.

The Picture Control of the camera was set to "Flat", and D-Lighting was set to "Auto".  The NEFs were processed in CNX-D ver. 1.5.1.  It was challenging to revover the apparently blown-out the silver paiting and make the black and shadow parts to look crispy.  The Color Control Point helped a lot.

Nice pictures Akira 👍🏻 Almost all the advertisers are Swiss. On the other hand, E-car races are probably on of the most boring experiences. Yes, I am a petrolhead ...

Thank you, Christian.  I checked out a Formula E race on YouTube.  It sounded like a cloud of mosquito!  :D  While I'm big fan of advanced technologies, I miss the sound of petroleum engines.

Akira, Very nice images ! the processing looks spot on you seem to be getting quite comfortable with CNXD very quickly

Fascinating technology, I also find the E series boring , like watching very fast golf carts

Personally, I think that the 50mm is the best car lens...I feel I have *seen the car* fairly accurately.

Horse racing fans probably say a similar thing about auto racing! No thunder of hoof beats and cries from the jockeys.

Thank you, Armando.  It does take more time to process on CNX-D than on ACR, and ACR seems to extract the potential dynamic range better than CNX-D.  But I tend to like the results of CNX-D because of its more natural rendition.  The texture of rubber tires and painted body covers looks nice.

Fast golf carts!  Well put!   ;D

Thank you, Keith, for sharing your experienced perspective.  You also treated my early symptom of GAS way before it becomes fatal.   ::)

LOL, Jack!  The horse racing fans may also miss the "emissions"!   ;D

Good job on the car, although IMO, it's looks promise more than it actually delivers when it comes to excitement.  ;)

Thank you, Carl.  I'm at least excited by the new technology employed into the machines.  Another good thing about the Formula E is that you won't need the ear plugs to wach the race.  :D
