My son took this at Eskmeals on the sand dunes of the West Cumberland coast on 30 June this year.
Please can somebody ID it, I thought it might be some sort of Marsh Orchid but it doesn't match any photographs I have, nor the detail description.

A member of the Pea Family. Hard to tell which one as the foliage isn't clearly shown. Could be an Ononis.

Thank you Birna, much appreciated. :D

Might be Ononis repens Common Restharrow, or one of its close relatives. They all occur on sand along the coastline.

I will get more images next year, it's a pretty flower, I thought it was an orchid from the flower, I am somewhat ashamed at my inability to recognise so few plants. :(

That's why it "pays" to have some botanists around :D
