Title: D810 firmware update!
Post by: Mike G on March 14, 2018, 16:16:19
There is apparently a D810 firmware update available!

As I no longer have any Nikon products, I have no idea what the update does.

I’m obviously still on a mailing list somewhere.

Enjoy 😊

Version 1.13

Right, AFAIK these came available about two weeks ago but apparently Nikon send out messages to its users in a phased way most likely to avoid everyone trying to download the updates to every camera on the same day.

The update is about improving the compatibility with AF-P lenses (standby timer expiration would reset focus before the firmware update, fixed in this update) and there is also a fix to microphone operation and one related to multiple exposures.

I think the AF-P compatibility update is crucial if Nikon is going to bring out more AF-P lenses in the near future, it would have been a PR disaster if a recent camera such as the D810 would not have been compatible in most ways that matter to the practical use of these lenses.

I've got a message of a firmware update for the D800, D800E and D500 as well.

I just uploaded the D500 firmware of today to my camera. Love the little one by her own right, not only as an addition to the D850!

I have just updated my D810, Df, and D500.  In respect to the lens distortion correction updates, the instructions from Nikon ask that any lenses be detached, but not in the case of the main firmware update to the camera itself.

In the instance of the lens distrortion/correction update, can this update be influenced by the firmware of the lens, or worse still, can the updating of the camera screw up the firmware of the lens?

Not an issue for me as such, but it has made me curious.

TIA.

My update from NPS  quoted the D800 only to version 1.11

I updated, but the update (1.13) made my Sigma EX 150 f/2.8 macro lens (not the OS) stop autofocus.

I reverted back to 1.12 and all is well. Just to warn others with non-Nikon lenses.

Could be to make sure that the lens is read at the moment when it is mounted onto the camera, and then use the latest corrections loaded into the firmware.
I.e.  The lens is not reread even though the camera is turned off and on

What would have been nice is for Nikon to have included a way to turn off VR on the 70-300 AFP DX lens in the D7200 update. As it is, that isn't possible.  :(

D800 latest firmware is 1.11, D810 1.13. Different cameras.

I have also found that this firmware v1.13 has rendered the auto-focus on both my Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM APO AF and 70-200mm f/2,8 ll EX DG APO MACRO HSM AF inoperable.  Response from Nikon: "Thank you for contacting Nikon. It' a pleasure assisting you. When we update our firmware's we make multiple changes to the way our cameras interrupt lens and accessories. This is why we can never directly guarantee compatibility with any third part product we don't sell. I would suggest not up dating your firmware until a newer version comes out."
Response from Sigma:  "Please send your lenses to service center for firmware update. The newer firmware for the lenses should be compatible with the new Nikon firmware.
I reverted back to the camera firmware v1.12.  Decided to ship one lens today, then opted out.  Was going to cost me almost $80 round trip to ship.  Not worth a lens firmware upgrade.  Especially with two lenses.  Would rather put $ toward new glass.

Ya know, I don't pay much attention to these updates unless I have an issue. With the D810 - no issues!

I haven't had any issues also John; that have directly affected my outings.  I'm finding it all quite laughable to be quite honest.

I did the same with my D810 und D800, I went back to the older firmware because the Sigma OS 105 und Sigma OS 150 did not autofocus.

Hi all.

I also chose to revert my D810 firmware back to 1.12 since my Sigma 50 f/1.4HSM no longer autofocused with 1.13.

I noticed today Nikon released C:Ver.1.14. Don't waste your time as it didn't change the auto focus issue for Sigma lens.

updates also for the Df and D610 as well as D810. Only tweak a timezone "issue" that I've never noticed

Call me cynical, but I do wonder if these are not to allow Nikon estimate client interest and who's actively shooting mid-tier DSLRs. but I don't have a problem with a marketing survey by proxy. I always take out the time to respond in Nikon's on line surveys, giving detailed feedback where I can

I updated my Df two days ago to L: 2.017 and today to C: 1.03 as it just appeared on the french site ! I usually try to update when asked or proposed (when I know about it), as I don't use third party lenses or batteries or whatever !
I haven't yet tested the lens correction upgrade does really (exam time, jurys and so on). If it does as it says, meaning correcting barrel and pincushion directly in Raw files, that should be great :D
For the time by cities, I don't really care, but find that a complete upgrade for a so little cosmetic aspect is a bit much...

I also updated my camera, it seems this firmware is really good.
Also an interesting article about new cameras I saw on http://fixthephoto.com/blog/tech-tips/relonch-camera-review.html
