Title: Nikon D800E focus issue
Post by: Peter_S on January 11, 2018, 19:16:04
Hi All,
after selling all my dx equipment I planned to buy a D610. Finally after thinking about a D750 and a D810 I ended with a used D800E with a shutter count of 2500 but a low serial number.
I already own a D800  which does not show the focus issue.

Could anybody help me with a serial number range of affected D800E’s?
Unfortunately I remembered this issue of the focus sensors after buying the cam......

Thanks a lot for your replies!

Hi, Peter, I do have heard about the "left AF point" issue of D800 and D4, and that was discussed here in the past as well.  But I don't remember if Nikon acknowledged the issue and made any announcement for that, unfortunately.

My D800E was purchased in November, 2012 from a low-volume dealer here in the USA.  It had the left-AF issue.  S/N: 3008036.  The local Nikon USA service facility fixed it under warranty.

got my D800E today and tested it carefully against my D800.
At both cams the left autofocus sensors show backfocus. Middle and right sensor blocks are both perfect.
28 1.8 more than 85 1.4.
At both cams the error is repeatable and absolutely identical. Without this carefully testing I didn't see this at my D800.
When I got my D800 years ago I tested the  outer right sensors and they are ok, same at the D800E.

Under normal shooting conditions it's barely visible, only under careful test conditions. Nevertheless it's disturbing when you know it.
Especially when you buy a high resolution 36MP cam.

Does anybody know whether Nikon still will fix this in Germany?
If not I may also live with it until I get a D850.
