John: Great thing about the D600 is you get an immensely large tonal content and can develop the shot in many different directions, far from the JPEG you might also have produced at the time of shooting. I hope the next D8xx will produce as smooth gradients as the D600 does.
Interesting grundge style!
-
Thanks Frank.
The D600 is a very versatile camera. Although bought to use it as backup only, reliability and quality is very good and now used also as one of the main camera's.
Keep in mind that a D8xx or +32mp camera is not always a step forward.
-
Megapixels are not important. To many for most practical application anyway. Tonality is important and White Balance and color consistency and AF reliability.
Each of these aspects is more important than sheer spatial resolution on top of incredible resolution to start with
But.
If I see a lens like the 1.4/105E that outperforms anything built yet, I can bear to have the unbelievable resolution on top of all the really important goods

Apart from the AF, the Fuji S5 is great in Tonality, White Balance, Colour and Dynamic Range.

A lens is just a tool and outperformance subjective. ;)

You have brush in Arizona? I thought all you had was cactus and scorpions that glow in the dark. Then again it's been decades since my parents got their kicks on Route 66 in a 1957 Mercury Monterey. The Merc didn't have air conditioning but at least it had quadrobeam headlights.
Dave who still can't picture brush in Arizona.

Well, I won't claim there is brush everywhere, but it definitely exists. Especially at higher altitudes, but that's not a guarantee.

There's plenty of brush in Arizona, they were looking at bringing in a slurry bomber a couple of months ago to deal with fire here in Mesa, which is hardly high elevation. Now, with these 110+ temps the desert can be an even bigger tinderbox.

Damn! That means California doesn't have an exclusive on brush fires.
When I was seven the family came west to California on Route 66. The highway was in the process of being modernized a project started by president Eisenhower. There were strips of highway in construction so we went from finished highway to graded gravel every few minutes. I don't know what states that was in. That was the summer of 1958.
My father took the family to as many national parks as possible. The last cross country trip by car was probably 1967. The last time I was my grandmother in Massachusetts she was in an oxygen tent. My father took Route 66 east and a deep southern route back to take us kids to as many states and parks as possible.
Most of the parts of Arizona I've been to seem to be desert. I've been to the Colorado, "The River" many times. I've been on The River in small boats with 7 to 10 hp outboards from Davis to Hover Dam.
Memories of my Childhood and youth.
Dave

Regular readers of NG might have noticed a reduction in the posting frequency of late from my side. The reason is I'm tied up in a project for the Norwegian Ministry of Environment, documenting our aquatic macrophytes of inland waters. This will keep me busy for months ahead.
Thus, the AW1 comes in handy for the occasional snapshot !! Otherwise, the underwater captures, which are rather dull as seen from an artistic point of view, are done with a Nikon D800 in an Aquatica housing using 8-15 Fish or the 20/2.8 AIS. Most of the time, however, is spent on endless studio work using close-up and photomacrographic equipment and focus stacking all around. Tedious work, but well paid.
The snap below shows the AW1 with six different aquatics, in case any one wondered (in no particular order: Potamogeton alpinus, Elodea canadensis, Callitriche hamulata, Hippuris vulgaris, and Ranunculus peltatus).
-
What a sad story stepping and killing such a precious being. My condolences.
-
Involuntarily stepping on a field mouse is one of the risks a nature photographer has to encounter. Has happened me once or twice. These animals follow their instinct and hide from a perceived danger, but that tactic doesn't work well in case of a human intruding on their territory. In grassland, one simply won't observe the poor little critter until you hear its squawking.
-
I took so many great shots on the pony farm. Do not know where to start. My heart is pleading for some portraiture but I had to promise my customers that I will not publish these. Sorry.
