Cool shots! I am beginning to like fisheye lenses

I love using Samyang 8mm on my D40 830nm:

Great contributions.
However, this thread was initiated as "Critique" then evolved into "Theme". Thus I'm going to move all but the original post (and any answers relating to that) into a dedicated thematic thread. This will take place later today, so no need to stop posting here meanwhile. DONE

This is Jakov´s fault ;D ;D ;D 8)

I´m having fun with it. Getting better in exposure and focusing. Fisheye lenses looks like a never-ending work in progress, that I like. Post processing IR images is not improving. Looking at images here, reading about other peoples techniques.
Is the editing challenge still going on?
-
Taken in Norway, during the scavenger tour in 2010 with D70 + 16/3.5 fish-eye and it's all Paco's fault :P
Paco, open up a new editing challenge, I don't know where it ended up...

Keep them coming - make me want an IR cam and a fish.
-
from the other day.
-
Trying new ways to develop. Still a lot of struggle to get some color out of the files. Af with the 10.5mm on the d80 is spot on.
-
Paco, I am crazy about sunflowers!
Which filter are you using?
If you are cutting off the light at 800nm, you might as well make them black and white.
If you cutting off the light at 720nm, you need to maneuver the channels.
If you are cutting off the light at 600nm (like I do), you get plenty of colors to play with :)
-
I'm crazy about sunflowers too! Ill post one more later.
I think my filter is a longpass around 720nm.
Cut with a dremmel from here:https://www.edmundoptics.com/optics/optical-filters/longpass-edge-filters/optical-cast-infrared-ir-longpass-filters/#f=categories_s
Im going to NY in August and the plan is to get a new converted camera from lifepixel. Lola is fun but the filter is all scratched. So 600mn has more color humm....
-
The 600nm has more color because it doesn't filter out all visible light. It let's through the entire wavelength of red channel and perhaps a bit of orange and yellow too. Bjørn likes to call it semi-IR, and that is my preferred way of shooting in IR.
I fell in love with the 600nm way of shooting when I started with a multi-spectrum broad-band D70 and a 16/3.5 fish-eye that has the R60 filter inside. Later I used a gel for the 8mm Sigma fish-eye. In any case I could start seeing what I was shooting. Later Erik modified a D200 for me so I don't have to play with gels and filters :)
Here are some examples:

Yes Jakov, I clearly remember those post. They are one more reason why I tried in the first place ;)
The jury is still out about the kind of filter and if it is going to be a full fx or dx sensor. So far the experience with the d80 IR "Lola", all the way from the modification has been amazing for me.
"Communications from the lab"
-
WOW, sunflower and Tesla :o
-
My d80´s filter is so scratched that I have to throw away many images. The plan is to replace it with a "lifepixel" converted either d3300 or d5300 720nm ir. In the mean time, I still enjoy very much what "Lola" can produce.

I´m back from NYC, with a brand new converted nikon d5300 by lifepixel, 720nm infrared only camera. The service and communication with the company was excellent and got my camera on time, a couple of days before I left the city. Working with this new camera is, again, challenging. Focus adjustment is different but optimized to use with live view. Post processing like I use to do with the d80 doesn´t work at all, is a completely different beast. I´m starting to understand Bjorn´s comments about the differences filter-camera-lens makes. Just starting...
First happy mistake. Nikon d5300 with 18-55 3.5-5.6 zoom lens. Post with Photoshop and Alienskin aperture

-
Paco, the post-processing is spooky and original at the same time. I am looking forward to more of the same :)
-
Paco, that is a promising start! Keep posting!

Maybe not as "wide" but wide enough for the thread?. 28mm f2 in d5300 with 830mn filter. Finding colors in those files is not easy at all. It needs some strong massage and at the end, I can´t not remember how I got there...
-
Paco, as long as you ended there :)

This is a wonderous image Fons
Since I'm very ignorant about IR photography, can you explain if the results in the sky and the (grass?) are
- just the effect of IR range of the spectrum,
- some sort of modification to lens bokeh (was anything actually OOF) or
- was it some additional crafty Fons PP that added to the overall effect?
-
Colin, the result is taken the original raw file through a number of editing processes, PS and plugins from Niks and Topaz.
Thank you.
