going to be posting more IR from now :o :o :o
35mm f/2 Ai
notice the weird edges on the ghosts ::)
at least this lens doesn't have a hotspot
-
IR is fun, almost by definition.
Lenses are much more prone to flare in IR as well.
-
The first image looks surreal, almost as though the people are green-screened in.
-
The IR frenzy caught up with you :)
Do post more!
-
Nice Richard.
The first one seems straight out of a scifi movie.

Yes, I noticed that too. :o :o :o
should I modify the focusing of my camera? is the focus shift the same across the board for all lenses? ::)

it's probably missed focus :o :o :o
that focus shift thing is hard to get used to

yes! i plan to make an IR database for my junk lenses :o :o :o

it's the "Minions" movie :o :o :o
-
with the Micro-Nikkor-P 55/3.5 Auto :o :o :o
I want to make a collection of samples for my lenses in terms of IR in different apertures, shooting outside of my window. how would you guys go about doing this? So that people will have an idea of how a lens performs at various apertures.
-
Generalisations about IR performance is made complicated by the fact that not only the lens, but subject, light, filter, and the camera all have an influence of the outcome.

I see, so some digital bodies will give hotspots and some will not? :o :o :o
I am thinking of a general scenario like shooting a building outside of my window in the morning when the sun is facing my bedroom and taking notes on how it looks for each lens at these given apertures and exposure.
-
Some lenses gives an IR Hot spot,,, not camera specific

If I might butt in for a moment...
I posted a question in the camera forum but got no replies, but perhaps you can help me here. I have a D3200 that I'd like to have converted, but am not sure which of various IR options might be the most useful. What sort are you using here?

That's fine Matthew!
I am using the super blue IR! :o :o :o
i believe that this is what many of us wanted instead of the deep monochrome IR

Thanks. I like the results you're getting.

unfortunately, the D70s is too old for this I think. maybe newer cameras will be better? :o :o :o
i do not want to post process my IR images so I got this instead

They're cool shots, Richard!
So are these straight out of the camera? I've converted a D80 with an R72 and am about to convert a D200. I'm struggling a bit with the processing side....

As IR has no given answer and no expectations set in stone, feel free to extract whatever colours that might be hiding inside your RAW file.
I personally consider shooting IR and not looking what's in the file a waste of time, but that's just me. And perhaps including Jakov too.

Yes and No. They look like that out of the camera but I play around with the contrast and saturation in LR :o :o :o I am too lazy to go to photoshop to swap channels so I chose this "Super Blue IR" filter ::)
-
Channel-swap is a clichéd approach to IR anyway.

oh, I dread just to think about the in-depth process of IR processing :o :o :o
-
Actually, it can be a lot of fun to explore the inherent potential. No two frames are identical.
-
that just feels like bringing my work home to me :o :o :o (because that's what I essentially do at the studio)
but I can see that this is a lot of fun for the hacker-at-heart ::)
-
thanks for the info, folks.
I'll keep plugging away. It's all pretty blazé around here right now (no foliage) and I hope to get some more images under my belt when it perks up.
-
Fun with IR, on the ice :)

D5300, 720nm from Kolari, 24-70mm f/2.8
-
I think this is about the first time I really coaxed an IR file to disclose its inherent colour potential.
The 20/3.5 Nikkor with a plain 720 nm filter.
The only "true" colour here is that of the reddish brown volcanic rocks, but see that as a coincide not a given restriction to the amazing colour range.
(I was reading John Brunner's novel at the time of shooting)

This is very trippy! Like LSD! :o :o :o
-
Ah....I will reconsider. Thanks, Fons.
wild capture, Bjørn!
-
Infrared is loads of fun ;D
-
Bjorn - love those colors.
Jakov - such a fun shot!
-
Thanks, Chip!
Cows are very photogenic in IR :D
-
These last examples go well to show IR is all about having visual fun ... :D
Once the rules are gone, creativity can have its play.
-
it's an albino cow :o :o :o
-
D200IR w/ 35mm f/2D
