Title: Theme Issues: Permanent Reporting Thread
Post by: Andrea B. on June 20, 2015, 19:07:44
Please report any problems with the Themes here in this thread.
Please mention which Browser you are using.

Current Themes:
There is an old Theme called Core which is not supported.
I can't seem to remove it from the Theme list!

Not sure whether this is a theme issue....
I am using the Nikongear theme.
Could we please have the thread starting date in the thread list of "Recent Unread Topics"

thx

Since you reported this here, Andre will be happy (?) to include the issue on her TODO list. Growing by the minute.

Dear Andrea!

On the mobile phone the text input is very small and the line breaks are roughly double the screen size, so horizontal scrolling when composing a text is commonplace.

Is it possible to make the text input field sensitive to screen resolution?

EDIT: Thank you for your help. Any of my thinking might be wrong. I can only say that editing posts on my phone is very hard to do.

I like to have the input field to end on the side of the screen and the letter size to be readable.

24"-screen good to edit, 5,5"-Screen hard to edit

Andrea, how are your eyes?  I'm not going to make you hurry.

That said, the NikonGear logo is collapsed in "Curve", which is the only problem in using it.  My browser is iE11 on 64bit Win7.

Akira. I understand this as a Kaizen approach. We collect things here but do not expect  the world to be created in one day.

Afx, I found the place where the code could be modified to show the first posting date. I'm in process of trying to edit that. Soon we should have that available.

Akira, I am in process of having a logo made for the non-yellow Themes. We will soon be Lookin' Good in the Curve Theme.

Frank, thank you for all the mobile observations. We will eventually be more mobile.

I never use my phone for internet browsing, but as an experiment I connected to Nikongear on my Sony Xperia phone, running Android, and Opera browser. It worked just fine, the layout of Nikongear site was perfect, images resized properly. No problems. Except that I find a 4-5 inch screen completely meaningless for any serious or non-serious use.... :)

Good News is that the Android System browser works as expected now.

I spend a lot of time in places I would certainly prefer to spend less time in.

What I do there is reading and looking at pictures and writing comments. I do not have acess to a stationary PC there.

Happy you like it, Andreas.
I thought it might be nice for foto display to have minimal colour on the page.

I reported that the NG logo in "Curves" thema was collapsed.  It is still collapsed on IE11 on Win7.

But on Safari running on iOS8.4 of iPad Air 2 that replaced my MBA, the logo is displayed just normally.

Obviously I don't know why (do you know Norah Jones?).

There is a clickable up-down switch to the right-hand side, Akira, that controls collapsing. You didn't click that by accident?

Post by: Akira on July 02, 2015, 08:08:44
Bjørn, sorry for my incorrect use of the words.  By "collapsed", I mean that the logo is not displayed correctly and replaced with the "road blocked" sign, which doesn't happen on iOS 8.4.

There is an issue viewing User details

I have seen this happen
- When clicking in someone's name in the "last updated by" column on the RH side
- When clicking in the user name (LH hand side of screen when in a thread)

I get
An Error Has Occurred!

The logo in "Curve" is still unable to load in IE11.  The logo is loaded without problem in Safari on iPad Air 2.  The mystery continues...

Don't  even know what that is ... thus, probably not.

We intend, by design, to stay away from 'social media'.

Not social media. An app which lets you scheme through fora that you are members of on your mobile phones/ tabs etc  , speedy and not resource hungry.

Please have a looksy

It is difficult for a *photo* forum to display well on mobile devices regardless of Theme being used.

Post by: Frank Fremerey on August 19, 2015, 08:57:13
The forum is all right on mobile (I use it roughly 75% mobile), only these little things that disturb:

1) the text input box does not adapt to resolution so I have to scroll sideways writing / editing or insert hard line breaks all the time

2) The "compose message" and "open thread" windows are so cluttered that I have one line as input and this line is scrollable left-right

3) Some linked images do not resize properly and need sideways scrolling too, but this is minor.

Conclusion: To make the forum very nicely accessible on mobile devices also those with "only 1200x800 qpix" resolution the only thing that has to be done is:

-- Possibility to get rid of three lines of clutter (B) (Mona Lisa) (Smileys) in my settings
-- Textbox adapts to screen resolution, so no sideways scrolling necessary.

Frank, what is the "open thread" window?
Title: Re: Theme Issues: Permanent Reporting Thread
Post by: Frank Fremerey on August 19, 2015, 20:50:03
This answer comes via quick reply. Uncluttered view. I have 5 or
6 lines to write and can see them all.

When I hit Reply I get all options but only one line to type.

When I open a thread or write a message it is the same.

I would appreciate this very much, too!
advantages:
+ tapatalk takes care of reformating contents on mobile devices, so no workarounds for various devices necessary
+ afaik supporting tapatalk just takes inclusion of a few code lines in the forum code
+ NG-R would be listed in tapatalk fora search.
- it's free for both users and site owners, the "price" being ad-injections in tapatalk. But whether this is an annoyance or acceptable is up to everyone's individual opinion.

I am adding Tapatalk to the list of things to look into.

There is also a more mobile responsive version of the forum software which is on the horizon.
Hopefully that upgrade will be available soon.

((I must admit that I am slightly mystified about why anyone wants to look at a photography website on their cell phone?? The fotos are so tiny on a cell phone!!!))

I just noticed that the NikonGear logo is displayed, albeit slightly soft, properly in "Curve" theme in IE11 on my Win7 now.

Thanks, Andrea, for the further improvement!

There is an unrelated motor vehicle forum that I frequent on which several members apparently use Tapatalk to post their forum replies.
At the bottom of every single message they post, the last line is "Sent via Tapatalk"
It is extremely annoying to me...it is useless visual clutter and, worse than that, it is advertising.
I'm sure that Tapatalk is the greatest miracle of the computer age, but please don't allow Tapatalk, unless the Tapatalk advert at the bottom of every post can be turned off.

As Tapatalk apparently is financed by those ads, they might be impossible to filter out? Have you tried if Adblock or similar browser plugins can keep such annoyances away?

The NG Team is firmly opposed to allow advertising directly or indirectly on this site. It will not happen. Same as buttons for [a]social media. Or recurring pleas for donations. We are not into NG for the money.
