Title: Lightroom CC 2015
Post by: Airy on June 16, 2015, 22:53:21
It seems to be significantly faster than the previous versions, both at startup and when loading photos.

That would be the first significant, quite significant improvement in a long time.

Do you share that impression ?

I don't use LR but my local friends are particularly impressed with the pano stitching

Downloaded CC2015.  Both 8- and 11- stitching panos using 16MP NEFs from D7000 seem to be a bit faster than in CC2014.

The "Save For Web (legacy)" function is moved to the lower level of the original pull-down menu, but the processing has become much faster.  However, the processing speed of the newer (non-legacy) function seems to be the same as the Save For Web of CC2014.

Akira - my friends also say it stitches must better - far less artefacts especially in the sky.

Elsa, according to my initial test, the stitcing of the power lines seems yet to be improved on CC2015 over 2014.  So far I only noticed the slightly improved processing speed.

Recently I'm into panos, so I will further look into the accuracy.

Lightroom 6/CC had serious problems with importing .TIFF files from Photoshop or other software. It was very disappointing and a huge hassle for those of us who jump back and forth from Photoshop to Lightroom. Yesterday, Adobe released a fix Lightroom CC 2015.1, and that did the trick. The new De-Haze filter is wonderful as are the addition of Black and White sliders in the adjustment brush, Radial, and Graduated Filters. Here is a recent photo, just to give us something to look at.

Airy: On my 15" rMBP from 2013 (model with dedicated NVIDIA GPU), there doesn't seem to be that much of a difference to be honest.

Elsa: Thanks for the links. It's nice to read a more detailed explanation of the GPU performance improvements they have implemented. I still would like to see more info. As far as I know, they are "only" using OpenGL and not OpenCL to speed up performance. Capture One has been using OpenCL for quite a while to speed up image processing and it can really do magic to the snappiness and performance. At the latest Apple developer conference, Apple announced "Metal" for OSX and Adobe was specifically mentioned in that regard. In my limited understanding of Apple's Metal framework, it can replace both OpenGL and OpenCL so perhaps we will see a future version of Lightroom using that instead and get some of the improvements that Capture One has provided for a long time.

Jorgen, my first impressions are indeed lessened by further experience, the improvement is not massive. At least it is not worse...

I am not seeing the increase in speed via the GPU. I have two GPUs, both 512, correct brand, etc. Kind of disappointing. Coupled with the recently fixed .TIFF problem, which was terrible, not sure what to think.

The performance improvement was VERY noticeable when they added OpenCL support in C1. I'm sadly seeing nothing like that in LR.
