When I first visited Erik in CPH back in 2009, he took me to this library which I found the most beautiful library I have ever seen in my life.
Then we found out that it was being dismantled due to lack of financing and that it was supposed to become a student home.
Saddened people were removing books from the bookshelves and I had tears in my eyes just like the librarian telling us the sad story.

Books, libraries, and book shops are slowly but surely becoming things of the past whether we like it or not.
This thread might turn out to be historic...

Jakov. I hope you are not right. I very much hope that some book shops and libraries are destined to survive.

My wife lost her job in Bonns biggest and oldest bookstore when it closed in 2013. Sad story.

Libraries are still necessary esp in Unniversity cities like Bonn. We have 40.000 students here annd they just put
millions into renovating the main library. Time to take some pictures there after redecoration.

Beautiful shots of the CPH libraries, which I'm not familiar with. Considering I'm danish, I'm quite unfamiliar with our capital. Likely because I've never lived or stayed there for long. The only CPH library I'm familiar with is "Den sorte diamant".
We got a new library called Dokk1 on the harbour here in Aarhus not too long ago. It's much more than just a library, it's a great place for kids to have fun too and it's quickly become a very popular place. A couple of snaps that really don't do it justice:

Frank, I heard that Edition Schott was selling Beethoven's manuscripts to support the company.  Fortunately, the whole library was bought by Bärenreiter and kept in Germany, if I remember correctly.

My local library have changed from a cellar with a few books when I was a kid, to a +100 million dollar building last year. The books are the same, but the ruling politicians got their "monument". At least, the lighting is ok.
