Very nice ones, Airy !

And what a coincidence!!   I was this evening also on the road with the Df and the Voigtländer 58/1.4  ----   at the start of a Torchlight procession for Peace, at Christmas-eve. Unfortunately it rained....

Not so unfortunate... shiny cobblestones and less crowded a place are the benefits of rain. I have used the Df more than once, with some precautions against water infiltrations at the lens mount, and had no trouble so far. The new Tamrons with rear gasket could be a worthwhile investment, by the way. Have you got more from the procession ?

Yes, no problem with the Df and the Voigtlander, they can handle a bit of rain if you at least not full in the open. A hat gave enough protection during shooting.

It was a kind of 'opening-show' and the action was quite fast to cover in the dark but the Nokton is very suitable with fast manual focus, at F/2  here.

These are very crisp image Airy and John.

The lit faces, either distant and OOF or close and sharp, add a lot to the pictures.

Airy and John, really good images  :).  Looks like an interesting Photo op.       Well the Voigtlander 58 1.4 looks pretty good.   A lot less expensive than my 58G .  Interesting to know how they compare shooting various subjects/light/backgrounds.  Not that I am selling my 58 1.4G  ;)
Many thanks for posting

The 58G is by far the best lens for night shots. Stopped down, the Voigtländer is very sharp and well corrected. The latter cost me 200€ (used, mint condition) so I can live with massive aberrations at 1.4. A bit on the creative side, like the 50/1.2 ...

Lovely night shots!
I had the Voigtländer 58/1.4 a while back and liked it a lot. Have since moved my interest over to the 58G and will be shooting with it from next week on.

Thanks Jakov, Rob, Airy, Tom and Sten.

There is still no real compare-test between the two 58/1.4 lenses.  The Voigtländer is already sharp wide open (very sharp for a fast lens)  I love the lens for it's size, versatility and built quality. It sometimes 'wild bokeh', which I like and gives extra possibilities,  can be controlled but is a point of attention. The only real drawback I can think of  is the 58mm filter thread which is unusual, it makes the use of close-up lens difficult or are there converters from 58 to 52mm?

Very nice images, I particularly like the second one Airy.

Those torchlight shots are wonderful too.

I appreciate you guys pushing the hardware into the extremes of darkness. Airy, the second shot seems cold and inviting at the same time. John I love that last shot of the faces lighted up by the flames. A torch procession behinds me of the movie Frankenstein.

Thanks Gary. The second shot admittedly involved some moderate post processing; fortunately the lens at 2.8 and the sensor at very high ISO were able to record sharp details and differentiated tones.
